How to be a Courteous Driver

The following examples can help you to become more aware of your driving habits.

Do slow down when you come across amber lights, this is the warning that the lights are about to change to red
Do not go speed through red lights

Do give way to other motorists wishing to switch lanes - it doesn't hurt you to be a few seconds late. Do not try to outmaneuver other motorists - this will cause a road tussle and tempers might flare, leading to possible accidents

Do be patient and give way to pedestrians. Do not try to speed up when approaching the pedestrian - he might try to force his way across and you might just run into him
Do not ever use a handphone while driving - this means that you only have one hand to control your car and it will slow down your reflexes. In addition, using a handphone is distracting, and you should concentrate on your driving instead.
Do signal well before turning so that other road users know your intent. If the road behind you is clear, the vehicles at the junction intending to turn right, can make their move instead of waiting needlessly.

Do run regular maintenance check on your vehicles. Faulty lights can be very dangerous as you can see by this example. From a distance, this vehicle looks like a motorcycle (due to malfunctioning of its rear left light).
Do switch on your headlights when visibility becomes bad; this includes dawn and dusk and heavy grayness during thunderstorms.
At the left is an example of why it is important to activate your vehicle's lights when visibility gets bad. The top left features a car with lights switched on. Below it is the same car with lights off - invisible.
